What exactly is Algol and which astrology system actually uses it?

I keep seeing astrologers mention Algol as an intense fixed star, especially in Western astrology. But I rarely hear about it in Vedic astrology. As a beginner, I’m curious why some astrology systems use Algol heavily while others don’t. How important is it really?

Algol is mainly used in traditional/fixed-star Western astrology. In Western astrology, it’s considered one of the most intense fixed stars and is associated with themes like transformation, obsession, power, survival, and strong emotions.

Many modern astrologers also think Algol gets overhyped online, especially because people call it the “demon star.” In practice, most astrologers only pay close attention to it if it tightly conjuncts an important planet or angle in a chart.
